摘要：赫斯特和苔丝分别是美国著名作家霍桑的代表作《红字》和英国著名作家哈代的代表作《德伯家的苔丝》中的女主人,尽管她们生活在不同的年代和国度,但她们的遭遇却十分相似:被绑架在"贞操"的桎梏上。佩戴着通奸标志"红A"的赫斯特大半生生活在人们的鄙视中,同样失去贞操的苔丝苦苦挣扎在所谓的"爱"的漩涡中;她们都热爱生活,并且努力为之奋斗,可结果却迥然不同:赫斯特由"通奸者"变成了"天使",实现了人生质的变化;苔丝却由美丽、纯真的姑娘变成了"杀人犯",最终走向毁灭!赫斯特成功的人生和苔丝失败的人生很是值得现代女性去研究、思考,并从中得到某些启发!
Hester is the hostess of the notable novel The Scarlet Letter by famous American author Hawthome and Tess is the hostess of the notable novel Tess of the d＇Urbervilles by famous British author Hardy. Although they lived in different periods of time and in different countries, what they suffered are similar very much： They were all kidnapped by the virginity chain. Wearing the scarlet letter, the sign of adulteress, most of Hester＇s life was bathed in the contempt of the people, and similarly Tess struggled to live on in the allegedly＂love＂whirlpool when losing her virginity. Both of them loved life very much, striving for it. However, they each enjoyed the different life in the end： Hester＇s changing from ＂ an adulteressl＂to ＂ an angle＂——an essential transformation, and Tess＇ s changing from ＂a charming, pure girl＂to ＂a killer＂, even she eventually slid to destruction! It＇s worthwhile for modern women to study and think carefully about the success of Hester＇s life and the failure of Tess＇ s life. What＇s more, they should dig out more messages from their impressive stories.
