摘要：海斯特是霍桑的代表作《红字》中的女主人,因为犯通奸罪,她胸前佩戴着标志耻辱的红字"A"。无论到哪儿,人们都对她指指点点,耻辱不分昼夜地追随她,折磨她。人们的鄙视和环境的险恶使海斯特窒息,但她没有绝望、沉沦,而是凭借自己的睿智和理性,将代表罪过的"红字"看作"修炼获生"的涅槃。海斯特用自己的善言善行、聪明智慧和才干向世人证明:对她而言代表沦落、卑贱的"红字"早已赋予了新的含义。她一步步实现本我、自我和超我——由一个邪恶的通奸者变成了人间天使!
Hester is the main figure in the masterpiece The Scarlet Letter by Hawthorne. For the sake of adulteress, she worn a scarlet letter-- A, which was the sign of shameless. Wherever she went, people laughed at her. She was always followed by humiliation day and night,and suffered from it. As if she was living in the nirvana of The Scarlet Letter. She would never remove her crime and obtain a new life unless she was willing to suffer from the fierce experiences. Because of people＇s contempt and perilous situation, it was hard for her to live on, but she was not defeated by the despair, and lost heart for the future. With her witness and sensibility, she viewed The Scarlet Letter ＂A＂ of sin as the opportunity to renew her life. With kind words, good deeds, witness and ability, Hester shows the world the The Scarlet Letter,disgraceful and humble, has been given new meaning. She finally realized her personal belief id, ego and superego, to turn to be an angle.
