摘要：本文通过对诺曼.梅勒的两篇存在主义小说《一场美国梦》和《刽子手之歌》中主人公罗杰克和吉尔摩从"反抗主流社会,追求复归自我";"用暴力的手段满足自我";"对待死亡的态度不同"三个方面进行比较,认为这两个人物虽然都是梅勒按照美国存在主义者"希坡斯特"的模式塑造的,都勇于反抗主流社会并倾向于通过暴力手段满足自我。但由于两个人物所处社会地位,教育背景的不同,决定了他们对待死亡的态度不同。
By comparing and contrasting the two heroes-Rojack from An American Dream and Gilmore from The Executioner＇s Song -from three aspects, the thesis has analyzed that both of the two heroes are same in their pursuit of revolting the mainstream society and regaining self, and they had the tendency of violence in their methods of realizing their desires. But due to different social ranks and educational backgrounds, the two heroes had different attitude toward death.
