Ulcerative colitis(UC)is a common chronic and refractory disease that has garnered significant attention from the medical community regarding its pathogenesis and treatment. In recent years, with in-depth research on the role of intestinal microbiota,it has been found that UC patients exhibit a marked imbalance in their intestinal flora. This imbalance can impair the intestinal mucosal barrier, trigger and exacerbate inflammatory responses, and affect key metabolites that maintain intestinal homeostasis-such as short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs),bile acids(BAs),and tryptophan(Trp)-thereby contributing to disease progression. As a therapeutic approach, traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)possesses diverse pharmacological effects and acts through multiple targets and pathways. The study reviews TCM interventions that have demonstrated efficacy in treating UC through intestinal flora regulation over the past three years, aiming to provide a scientific basis for TCM-based UC therapies, expand treatment options, and offer new insights into the development of novel UC medications.
